Now for those of you who have just upgraded from the beetel 220BX to the 440TX, this is a small, handy tutorial.
If if you download a lot, you obviously use utorrent/azureus/any other bit torrent client.
Im am going to save myself the tedium of mentioning why port forwarding is so necessary . You'll find ample reasons here.
Now for those who have switched from the 220bx, you will have to forward the ports on your 440tx once again. The address 192.168.1.1/main.html does not hold good here. Instead use this http://192.168.1.1/html/index1.html.
On entering this you should see a page similar to this
The default username is "admin" and password is "password" or "123456". If this does not work, call up the customer care and they will guide you.
Once you log in you must see a screen similar to this
As shown in the image, on the top of the page click the "Advanced" link.
You will be take to this page
On this page click on the link titled "Port Forwarding", as shown in the image.
This will take you to this page.
If you get a message asking you to specify an ip address before proceeding, do this. Click on "LAN Clients -->Select LAN Connection should be LAN Group1 --> Under Enter IP Address, enter your own ip address. (You can find out your ip address by going to command prompt and entering the command "ipconfig") -->Click on "Apply". Now click on "Port forwarding".
On this page select the "user" radio button and click on the "New" button as indicated.
You will be taken to this page.
Under rule name you can give any name, for example, i entered utorrent. Under protocol select TCP,UDP.
Under "port start" enter the first port number you wish to open and "port end" specifies the ending port number. The "port map" should contain the same port number as what you entered in "port start".
As an example i opened up a single port, 61132 for utorrent.
Once this is done click on apply and go back to the previous page.
Now check the "user" radio button, you should now be able to see the newly created rule.
Select the rule, click on "Add" and click on "Apply".
Now on the top of the page click on "Tools", you will be directed to this page. Then click on "System Commands"
On the page click on "Save All" and then click on "Restart". Your modem will reboot.
Your done.

Have been searching for this for so long....with no results.
And finally...a great post....what a relief..thank you so much.
By the way, just out of curiosity...how did you find this?
Well i called customer care and asked them for help. They couldn't even understand what i was talking about. They also told me that the 440tx does not support port forwarding! and to get the modem replaced.
I was not convinced, but somehow managed to get the modems ip address, after making god knows how many phone calls. Just found my way around after that.
And yogi, your most welcome, hope it helped you.
do i have to port forward the beetel 440tx so that i could do remote assistance from msn?which port must i forward?
do i have to port forward the beetel 440tx so that i could do remote assistance from msn?which port must i forward?
hey nabil....really sorry for the delayed response. Yes you must ensure that port 3389 is forwarded.
hey yogi, i want to forward port for web server service which will be running on one of my local pc in lan. I had done the setting in port forwarding page, but not able to access the website with the ip of my modem.
I have a web application named myweb on my pc having ip 192.168.1.2. myweb is accessible on other pcs in the local lan, but it is not accessible while accessing http://dynamicipofmymodem/myweb. Although i had forwarded the port for web server to 192.168.1.2
Please help me out.
Thanks
Prabhakar
hey sidd, sorry i named you yogi.
Thanks
hi prabhakar. Im not quite sure if i understand your problem entirely. Im not familiar with an application called MYWEB either.
When you use multiple machines on a router, every machine has its individual ip address. Now say you want to forward a port for an application on each one of your machines, you will have to manually do that by creating multiple ip's on the port forwarding page.
Heres how. When you log in, ADVANCED -> PORT FORWARDING -> NEW IP. Here first check whether your ip for that particular machine, exists (it most probably will under the heading 'Dynamic Addresses'). In case it doesn't SELECT A LAN CONNECTION (anything will do) -> ENTER IP ADDRESS OF THE MACHINE -> ENTER HOSTNAME(optional) -> LEAVE MAC FIELD BLANK -> CLICK ON APPLY.
Now come back to the port forwarding page and SELECT THE LAN GROUP (same as what you entered earlier) -> SELECT LAN IP and now forward the port and click apply.
Remember, if you do not "save all" and "restart" the settings will not be saved. (Refer to the guide).
Do let me know if this helped, else please provide some further details, we'll try to work it out.
Hi sidd,
Thanks for the response. I had already done things working. It was a minor mistake i was doing. I had corrected it and it started working. But thanks for your interest in my request.
Thanks a lot again,
Bye
your welcome :)
Hey, this is exactly what I needed. Thanks a lot! :D
I have the beetel 440 txi router , but the problem in mine is that in the configuration page , it doesnt have that advanced tab . Do i have to update its firmware or someting ?
Please help me out here . am really struggling with bittorent speeds
rohit, make sure this is the address you type in http://192.168.1.1/html/index1.html and then follow the guide.
If it still doesn't show let me know.
No you do not need a firmware upgrade.
you have saved me. i was about to get new wifi modem as i was not able to find port forwarding.
hi,
i have a serious problem,
i do not have the advanced option at all in my modem setting.
i use the same beetel 440txi modem. i cannot find any advanced setting at all. wen i called the customer care they couldn't even get wat i am talking about. ny help would b appreciated.
pls mail me if possible on rakesh1988@gmail.com
thanking u all in advance,
rakesh
Sorry for the delay. first ensure your typing in the right address, http://192.168.1.1/html/index1.html
Im not aware of a basic option page for the modem. It should ideally take you to the main page (with all the options). Please read the guide once more and give it a go. If problem still persists, see if you can send me screenshots of the pages you get in order.
Dont even bother calling customer care. If you really must speak to the technical supervisor directly. the regular customer support wont have a clue.
Oh what a relief! I have been searching for the right directions to setup my Beetel 440TXI. Thank you so much. My downloads with BitTorrent was as low as 1 to 3 KB/s. After I configured as per your guidance I get a download of 28 to 34 KB/s. Thanks again!
glad to be of assistance suneeth
Extremely helpful. Thanks a ton.
Hi Sidd....even i dont have advanced tab in my 440txi. I want to configure it port forward. I would have attached screenshots bt i dont know how to attach. plz help with both the things
hi naveed...im am unsure of how the advanced tabs aren't showing up. Before logging in, check what your url is. It should not read http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/webcm ( screenshot here - http://img241.imageshack.us/my.php?image=36213688ep9.jpg). If this is the page you are getting you need to check the url. If its a different page. To take a screenshot, when on the page hit the "print screen" key on your keyboard --> open paint --> go to edit --> paste --> save the file as a jpeg image --> open http://www.imageshack.us/ --> browse for your image --> click " host it" --> copy n paste the first link here.
Hi I'm currently using 450BXI beetle modem. Please let me know how to port forward on this one.
Hi All,
I got a problem here. when I access my dynamic ip address, it opens the modem interface.
How do I make it to open the website on my local desktop.

Hi Sid,
Thanks for a great post however, I am not able to open the page. When i try clicking the link it takes me to this open dns page
http://guide.opendns.com/?url=192.168.1.1/main.html&client=ie6
can you help here in terms of what the problem is.
i am trying to resolve this as i try connecting my xbox with my 440txi and it says that my NAT settings are moderate. Also i should open ports using UPNP. However, the regular page of beetel does not give any advanced options. and the link you mentioned is not opening.
thanks.
hi Vibhore,
First of all i suggest you use the DNS address your IP asks you to use. In India both airtel and bsnl have very fast dns servers, probably located very close to your city. So if your DSN settings are something like this
* 208.67.222.222
* 208.67.220.220
for BSNL, change it over to
* 218.248.240.208
* 218.248.240.135
for airtel change to:
* 125.22.47.125
* 202.56.250.5
Instead of clicking the link in the blog, copy and paste it(or manually typing it). Try internet explorer instead of firefox as i too have been facing problems in firefox.
And as far as the xbox is concerned, i havent tried hooking mine up yet, but this is a handy link to do so: http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/support/xbox360/live/connect/connecttolive-intro.htm
Yeah and it seems you might have to forward a bunch of ports, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911728
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/xbox.mspx
let me know if this works.
you blog is quite informative for 440TX but i couldn't get information for 440TXI model.Do you have any idea for the same?
